By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor
Challenges for forensic investigators have increased with the popularity of smartphones and ATC-NY has launched a new forensics tool to address this issue.
Known as Mobile Marshal, this tool for the mobile market has been designed to extract more and better information from smartphone backups. The solution automates the analysis of iPhone and BlackBerry (News - Alert) backups and this process enables a quick and thorough investigation process.
ATC-NY is a subsidiary of Architecture Technology Corporation (ATC) and conducts advanced research and development in computer security and information assurance.
The company notes that once installed, this tool will quickly scan the backup files and extract phone-specific forensic evidence such as e-mails and text messages.
Also included in Mobile Marshal is an event timeline-a feature that describes phone usage corresponding to specific dates when multiple backups are present.
Users of Mobile Marshal can complete several tasks such as analysis of BlackBerry backups (IPD and BBB files). It can extract Calendar Items, handle both iPhone (News - Alert) and iPad backups and look at Browser History as well as Geographical Location History.
Running on Windows XP or newer versions of the OS, Mobile Marshal generates detailed reports in several formats such as RTF and PDF, and also maintains an audit trail.
ATC-NY offers many Cyber Marshal forensic products that help the U.S. law enforcement to investigate cyber crimes. These tools aid investigators to cut the time required for the analysis process.
