Mimecast Leads The Way With 50 New Legal Firms In The Past Six Months
By Shankar Pandiath, TMCnet Contributor
Mimecast, the leading SaaS (News - Alert)-based e-mail archiving vendor, recently announced that it now had in its portfolio 70 of the top 100 and around 130 of the top 200 legal firms as its clients. In the past six months, Mimecast has also signed over 50 new legal customers.
Mimecast simplifies the processes and provides end-to-end control of e-mail. It delivers cloud-based e-mail management for Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange, including archiving, continuity and security. Mimecast now serves more than 5,000 customers across the Globe, with offices in Africa, North America, Europe and the Channel Islands.
Foot Anstey, Weightmans, Kingsley Napley, SJ Berwin and Russell Cooke are some of the Law firms that have joined Mimecast in the past six months. With over 25 customers, Mimecast now has a significant presence in UK Chambers. The Bar Council of England and Wales are its newest customers for security and cloud based archiving.
Kevin Elsden, the network manager for SJ Berwin LLP says that the primary reason for using Mimecast was its functionality. He added that as they used to have four separate products for four separate functions, but as Mimecast does all of them together, they were able to amalgamate it all into one. He further added said that the transition to Mimecast was smooth and the impact on users was minimal. He claimed that Mimecast has been a reliable service since its implementation in July 2011, and that they have no regrets in choosing them.
Mimecast is the leading supplier of cloud-based e-mail archiving, security and continuity for Microsoft Exchange and Office 365. When the company was founded in year 2003, the legal sector was one of the earliest adopters of Mimecast technology due to their heavy reliance on e-mails. At first, it was Mimecast’s continuity of service that was appreciated by the firms. However, recent years have brought forward the need for archiving as a part of risk management, and Mimecast fits the bill perfectly. In this age of mobile e-mail, rapidly growing law firms cannot afford e-mail downtime as it can be damaging to the business. Mimecast’s reliable and consistent mobile access services are now an essential part of the law firms.
Thereza Snyman, head of IT, Kingsley Napley LLP says that the question is not why would you have Mimecast, but why wouldn't you have it? She felt that it is a comprehensive solution that covers business continuity, security and archiving in one. She added that this relieves time pressures on the IT department and gives users fingertip control for searching and managing their archive.
She went on to add that the first project she undertook on joining Kingsley Napley in September 2011 was to implement Mimecast. She said that the first and foremost important reason being the business continuity aspect, and the second considerable advantage was being the secure archiving of e-mails, ensuring full audit compliance. She felt that in her view, on-premise solutions are cumbersome and, over time, create storage bottlenecks, so having the archive in the cloud was a big attraction with Mimecast.
Eliza Hedegaard, account director, Legal at Mimecast felt that lawyers need access to e-mails from mobile devices wherever they are, 24 hours a day, and Mimecast is one of only a few providers to be able to offer full e-mail archive access from Windows Phone (News - Alert), iOS, Android or BlackBerry devices, making Mimecast a vendor of choice for law firms.
Eliza added that innovation has always been crucial to Mimecast’s business and they will be continuing to develop new services and technologies that will help their legal customers provide the most efficient service possible, whilst maintaining their competitive edge. She felt that 2012 will be a milestone year for Mimecast innovation as they were readying the most exciting product roadmap in our history.
