DigitalPersona's Fingerprint Biometrics Showcased at Biometric Consortium Conference

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

DigitalPersona’s portfolio of fingerprint biometric Civil ID solutions were showcased at the Biometric Consortium Conference. An announcement in this regard has been made by the global provider of authentication and endpoint protection solutions, DigitalPersona Inc.

Biometric technologies for Defense, Homeland Security, Identity Management, Border Crossing and Electronic Commerce are the focus of the Biometric Consortium Conference. The National Institute of Standards and Technology or NIST and the National Security Agency (News - Alert) or NSA supports the Biometric Consortium Conference held in Tampa, Fla. from September 27-29, 2011.

Applications of the company's U.are.U Fingerprint Readers were demonstrated by DigitalPersona at the Conference. Forthcoming mobile identity and PIV-compliant solutions will be also previewed by the company at the Conference. DigitalPersona will be at booth #417 at the Tampa Convention Center.

In the emerging countries of the world, biometrics is being adopted rapidly. Basic services like pensions, entitlements, education, banking and secure voting systems need to be provided to the burgeoning populations if these countries want to achieve growth, prosperity and political stability. A reliable and cost-effective means of identification at point-of-service access is needed for the effective delivery of these services. Fraud can run rampant if there is no identification. Portable, easy-to-manage IDs can be also provided to citizens in countries with no other reliable identity infrastructure through biometrics.

Electronic voting, voter registration, mobile micro-finance, entitlement and other Civil ID programs are supported globally by using DigitalPersona fingerprint biometrics. Authentication products are being provided by DigitalPersona to governments, multi-national banks and top technology companies for the past 15 years.

According to Jim Fulton, vice president of marketing at DigitalPersona, the company has the top, high-volume, low-cost manufacturing capabilities in the market. Over the past year and a half, more than 300,000 fingerprint readers have been delivered by DigitalPersona to several of the largest voting system opportunities.

In a release, Fulton said, "We are expanding our product families to address the need for standards support on a global scale as well as the need for mobile identification. We will demonstrate the evolution of our Civil ID portfolio at this year's show."
