MOSAID Files Patent Infringement Suit against NVIDIA, Freescale and Interphase
By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributor
The suit was filed on April 7, 2011 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.
In its complaint, MOSAID asserts that NVIDIA (News - Alert), Freescale and Interphase have infringed, and continue to infringe certain patents related primarily to power management techniques, and microprocessor architecture. The accused devices include graphics processors, application processors, microcontrollers, and system-on-chip devices. These microcomponents products are used in mobile, automotive, consumer and communications applications.
In a press release, John Lindgren, president and chief executive officer of MOSAID said, “Unfortunately, it is increasingly clear that many companies now require litigation in order to seriously consider taking a license in a timely manner, despite our continued desire to resolve patent infringement disputes through licensing discussions.”
“In such circumstances, we are prepared to litigate in order to defend our intellectual property rights,” Lindgren added.
As a company focused on the licensing and development of semiconductor and communications technologies, MOSAID Technologies has signed patent licensing agreements with several semiconductor companies, and in 2008 expanded its patent portfolio to include wireless patents. Founded in 1975, MOSAID is based in Ottawa, Ontario.
Recently the company also initiated wireless patent infringement litigation against the following companies: AsusTek Computer Inc.; Atheros Communications, Inc.; Canon U.S.A., Inc.; CSR (News - Alert) plc; Dell, Inc.; Digi International Inc.; Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.; Intel Corporation; Lexmark International, Inc.; Marvell Semiconductor, Inc.; Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (News - Alert); Ralink Technology Corporation; Realtek Semiconductor; Research in Motion Corporation; Wasp Barcode Technologies, Ltd.; Wistron Corporation; and Venture Research, Inc.
Earlier in July 2010, TMC (News - Alert) reported that MOSAID re-signed a seven year patent license agreement with Taiwan’s Nanya Technology Corporation. The agreement grants Nanya, one of the leading random access memory vendors, a license under MOSAID’s memory patents for all DRAM and other semiconductor memory products sold worldwide under Nanya's brand name.
